The Gogos enjoy the Eastern Cape

12 Apr 2017

We think everyone should get to enjoy all that South Africa has to offer, most of all the wisest of our nation – the gogos. The “Gogos on Tour” initiative aims to treat our senior citizens to some awesome experiences at various places across their provinces.

This week, the lovely gogos from the Eastern Cape were treated and delighted to a host of activities, and this is what they got up to…How well do you know your city? The gogos were treated to a city tour and loved every minute of it. East London City Tour is the only river port in South Africa and a unique holiday destination. Explore the city and visit historical sites, including the East London Museum, which is the home of the Coelacanth – a fish which was discovered at the Chalumna River. This town prides itself on its Victorian-style buildings and one of the best beaches in the country.

The gogos enjoyed a busy day, and after their tour they headed to East London Aquarium

The East London aquarium is small, but fun and informative thanks to a number of unique displays and features including a whale-watching deck, a breeding colony of African penguins and some of the best seal shows in the world. Here the gogos could explore the marine life on display as well as take in a show.

Gogos together

The gogos got to lunch in style at an art gallery before going to their lovely accommodation for the evening. At the Garden Court East London Hotel, the gogos enjoyed a welcome drink and dinner. Garden Court East London Hotel, located on the city’s spectacular Eastern Beach Promenade and close to the CBD, is the ideal base for those travelling for business, as well as leisure travellers visiting one of South Africa’s most historic cities. Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Garden Court East London Hotel is a perfect springboard from which to explore great, local attractions and is a short walk from the beach.

After fun at the zoo and a relazing pamper session, the gogos had worked up an appetite and what better way to enjoy the beautiful Eastern Cape then to have lunch at a beachfront restaurant. If you enjoy eating out, East London offers a wide range or restaurants designed to cater to your specific tastes, and of course everyone loves a meal near the ocean. The gogos got to enjoy lunch together before heading home.
