October is Seniors’ Month in South Africa, and what better way to celebrate the wise citizens of our nation than by giving them some worthy discounts at awesome tourist spots in Cape Town. Experience the inspiring views and rich biodiversity that is Table Mountain or soak up the calm beauty of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden – Cape Town is full of delights and just because you’re a little older and a tad slower, it doesn’t mean you have to stay home this summer!
To celebrate our older citizens here are some of the coolest attractions that Cape Town has to offer with a number of special promotions for our senior citizens.
If you are South African and 60 years or older, you are able to buy discounted Table Mountain Cableway tickets on Fridays, and you can also tuck into a delicious Café Pensioner special at the Table Mountain Café.
For only R45, you can choose a pie, chips and salad OR a quiche and salad, plus a slice of delicious milk tart, made by a talented confectioner; add a cup of filter coffee or tea to that and you are set. Simply hand your Pensioner’s Ticket to the café cashier, who will stamp it and return it to you for your return trip.
Make your way to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden on a Tuesday, when SA citizens over 60 can enter for free! Stroll along the paths to the environmental education centre or take in the beautifully-crafted structures in the sculpture garden. After the winter rains, the garden is more beautiful than ever.
When all that fresh air has made you ready for a little rest and nibble, make your way to Moyo Kirstenbosch, which offers a pensioner special of tea or coffee and a scone or muffin for only R20.
No trip to Cape Town would be complete without a trip to the amazing Cape Point. Enjoy the scenic beauty, and soak up the nautical history that makes this area so interesting. A fun day out for sure!
And if you would like an aerial view, save yourself a long uphill walk and take a trip with the Flying Dutchman Funicular.
For the over 60s, Cape Point is offering a special rate on the Flying Dutchman Funicular with a return ticket costing you R21 (as opposed to R49) and a single ticket setting you back R16 (as opposed to R39).
Enjoy a glass of South Africa’s finest wines by visiting one of Cape Town’s most-loved wine farms, Groot Constantia. Known for its fabulous wines and gorgeous setting, it is a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the inner city.
As a Senior citizen you can enjoy a cellar tour and tasting for only R20, and tasting only for R15. Cellar tours take place daily from 10h00 to 16h00, on the hour.
V & A Waterfront
With an array of restaurants and shops to keep you busy, it’s easy to spend at least a few hours wandering inside the mall and outside in the harbour. With more than 20 establishments offering discounted rates for senior citizens, everyone can enjoy the V&A Waterfront.
From restaurants, movie theatres and boat cruises, pensioners can enjoy a special day out. Please make sure you apply for a Senior Citizen Card at the info desk to qualify for these discounted rates, and free parking Monday to Friday (9h00 to 12h00).
These offers are only available to South African senior citizens, upon presentation of their valid South African ID books.
